UrbanTide has significant cross-sector experience, dating back to the £24m Future City Glasgow programme in 2012. We have since developed uSmart, our SaaS product, and are currently expanding our AI portfolio across Transport, Government, Energy and Housing. We have a growing team which are headquartered at the Bayes Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland's AI hub.

We seek a Front End Vue Developer to grow with our team and help make a sustainable world with AI.  

About the position

Are you a front-end developer who has experience in developing SaaS web services and products?

Join our growing start-up, where you can unlock the power of data to help people and cities work better and smarter. You'll be part of a vibrant start-up community in the centre of Edinburgh and work in our Edinburgh office.

Required skills and experience

  • You have experience developing web applications with frameworks/libraries, including Node / Vue.
  • Experience handling spatial data through products such as Mapbox, GoogleMaps, Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, etc.
  • Demonstrated best-practice software engineering, including agile methodologies, unit testing, refactoring, code reviews, build and deployment processes.
  • You have expertise in developing, testing & debugging complex systems.
  • You have experience with data visualisation.
  • You are a confident and thoughtful communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to adapt your style to different audiences and in different contexts.
  • You like contributing to a culture of improvement and learning - continually learning and passing on your experiences to others.

You are passionate about technology and using it to help make a sustainable world. You are a front-end developer with experience in developing SaaS web services and products?

You're a problem solver who's always willing to learn and improve. You embrace challenges and are comfortable admitting to and learning from your mistakes. You love working with smart people and enjoy the fast-paced and flexible environment of a start-up.

Day-to-day activities

Under the guidance of our CTO and Product Manager, you'll contribute to developing and implementing our SaaS web services and products. You will be working closely with our existing development team and will have the opportunity to build and upskill as we scale.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work across the core platform and build new solutions, collaborating with the whole team to identify and create best-in-class products.
  • Expand and iteratively improve our existing frameworks.
  • Build high-quality applications that delight and engage our users, adhering to modern web standards which combine multiple data sources to create mapping tools and real-time dashboards.
  • Collaborate with our team to build the next-generation front-end architecture to support our next chapter of company growth.
  • Explore innovative ways to solve problems and become an expert in complex domains.
  • Deliver features regularly, be comfortable with ambiguity and iterative development, and always push for code quality while balancing pace vs. perfection.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.
  • Undertake quality assurance, issue rectification and bug fixes on new and legacy code.

Desired skills and experience

We would be keen to hear from you whether you have none or all of these.

  • Experience with the Vue.JS front-end frameworks 
  • Experience using ElasticSearch and AWS services
  • Experience in containerised deployment (Docker)
  • UI/UX design experience
  • Curiosity about AI and ML
  • Analytical, inquisitive, and results-oriented
  • Strong sense of ownership with a passion for software and continuous learning
