Exploring and creating visually stunning data stories for the new Bristol planetarium.

Data Stories for the new Bristol Data Dome.

We've been working with Bristol City CouncilFuture Cities CatapultAt-Bristol science centreBristol is Open and ISO. To create a number of data stories that visualise the hidden layers of Bristol. We trawled through the 249 data sets available on Bristol Open Data to uncover interesting story threads that reveal Bristol. These included transport and environmental data to visualise the arteries and lungs of the city. We uncovered interesting correlations in the Census data to reveal the changing patterns across the city. And explored the power of the emerging mesh network which will turn Bristol into a living, playable city for everyone.

ISO weaved the visualisation magic to deliver a stunning data dome trailer to inspire the city of the potential of open data.

The next phase includes community engagement workshops and live data visualisations. An exciting project with huge potential.

"The technology really is amazing... The planetarium upgrade is a great opportunity for growth for us; as the data visualisation element of the Bristol is Open project allows us to develop new relationships within the city and beyond, using the planetarium in an entirely new and innovative way.”
- At-Bristol chief executive Phil Winfield
