We've designed a unique set of workshops based on past training delegate feedback.

Here we are a further six months on and we have just wrapped up the full year-long open data training programme for Scotland’s public services. If you missed it, check out our six-month update.

Although we delivered the training, the attendees made the workshops so effective because the breadth of knowledge among them meant there were always new insights to consider. Each session provided a platform for discussion, knowledge exchange and relationship building. Participants were keen to learn about the open data initiatives across Scotland as well as global case studies; lively discussions took place around how open data applies to different organisations, for different roles and responsibilities and with different datasets.

A community is growing around open data training and we want to continue to make that community stronger. Even with an incredible 98% of delegates saying our workshops were informative and with over half of delegates saying they left with a plan for next steps on their organisation’s open data strategy, we know our job is not done.

This week we launched a new set of open data training sessions and workshops, each of which has been developed based on a full year of training feedback.

Our New Open Data Training Programme

We listened to workshop participants who said there is a need for more introductory training, more practical and technical support and more opportunities to play with open data in a safe space and with guidance. Starting in October we will begin delivering a range of new open data training sessions including an Open Data Crash Course, 1- and 2-day workshops and a hands-on session where delegates will use their own data to learn how to open, cleanse, validate, visualise and publish data with our guidance and support. We will also open an online community for people to carry on discussions from training and to collaborate and share best practices. Keep an eye out for that!

We are holding initial sessions in October, November and December in Edinburgh with more sessions throughout 2017 across Scotland. If you have any questions or want to talk about our open data training, send us an email or tweet @UrbanTide.
