Next month, we’ll be showcasing some brand new data analysis features at Cycling Scotland’s annual conference and running an unmissable 'Data in Cycling' breakout session. Join us!

Black bike parked in Glasgow

On Tuesday 8th October, we’ll be attending the annual Cycling Scotland Conference at the DoubleTree Hilton in Glasgow.

The event aims to bring together organisations that support people in Scotland to cycle for everyday journeys. More than 200 attendees are expected on the day, and there will be lots of opportunity to share learnings and celebrate progress that’s been made in active travel in Scotland over the last 12 months.

UrbanTide are delighted to be running a ‘Data in cycling’ breakout session, which will focus on the crucial role data plays in facilitating everyday cycling today and in the future. Iona Chandler and James McLeod will be chairing the session, alongside a panel of speakers including Urban Big Data Centre’s David McArthur.

Keynote speakers will also include Adrien Sartre, Political Advisor to the Deputy Mayor of Paris and Head of Transport Planning and Delivery at Glasgow City Council, Deborah Paton.

New data, new dashboard for Cycling Scotland

We've have been working hard on a new active travel data insights dashboard for Cycling Scotland, which we’re delighted to be demoing to attendees at the event for the very first time.

Our team have built a powerful, multi-layered interactive active travel data insights map combining more granular data with machine learning. Using aggregated data from active travel counters and sensors all across Scotland, users can now not only filter by region to see numbers of cycle and pedestrain traffic in real-time. The fully interactive map can now also give insights such as the top performing cycle spots in Scotland and changes in modal transport use over time compared with private car use and public transport.

This is a substantial step forward in cycling data aggregation and visualisation that will give Cycling Scotland and other active travel partners the data they need to track, monitor and clearly prove the impact of infrastructural changes on cycling numbers around Scotland.

About the Cycling Scotland event

Each year, around 250 delegates attend the conference. This event is unmissable for anyone involved in supporting more people to cycle for everyday journeys, such as decision-makers within local authorities and Regional Transport Partnerships, active travel organisations, Scottish Government, private and third sector organisations, campaign groups and many others.
